Introduction to The Gardner
Perfect for first-time visitors, the “Introduction to the Gardner” is a thirty-minute tour, which highlights both the museum’s installations, as well as Isabella's singular vision. Each tour showcases one floor of the museum. They take place at select times on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. During the tour, the guides also offer tips for self-exploration so that you can get the most out of your visit.
The River at Concord
When you’re done with your 30-minute tour, head to the MacKnight Room to see Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts’ colorful painting, “The River at Concord.” After studying painting in Europe for almost ten years, Roberts returned to the New England countryside, where she found endless artistic inspiration. In fact, she created this stunning painting on the Concord River in nearby Concord, Massachusetts. When the museum purchased her piece, Roberts sent Isabella a letter. You can check out their correspondence on display in the Long Gallery.
The Courtyard
If you want some fresh air, head outside to explore the always-blooming courtyard. The skilled horticulture team designs dramatic displays each season, so there’s always something new to discover. In February and March, the orchids are a must-see. Then, in May and June, stop by to see the beautiful hydrangeas.
